Sokoto Approves Massive Fiscal Outlays To Procure Critical Wet Season Farm Inputs

The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved a major food security capital intervention following the allocation of extensive fiscal resources to procure agricultural inputs for the 2026 wet season farming cycle. The public financing initiative is designed to insulate the local agrarian economy from inflation and expand the output capacity of subnational smallholder cooperatives.

The state-backed procurement guidelines encompass thousands of metric tons of high-grade NPK fertilizers, Urea bags, and improved, drought-resistant grain cultivars. By absorbing approximately forty percent of the aggregate landing cost of these materials, the administration aims to retail the inputs through approved depots at heavily subsidized prices compared to open market indicators.

The state government has set up an independent verification task force to oversee delivery logistics across the local government councils. This enforcement team is mandated to log shipments via digital registries, ensuring the subsidized farm inputs are distributed directly to real registered farmers and preventing commodity diversion or price manipulation by middlemen.
