Edo State Government Validates Strategic Policy To Counter Online Abuse Vectors

BENIN CITY, Nigeria, June 25, 2026 - The Edo State Government has finalized a major internal safety and legal milestone following a comprehensive stakeholders' validation session held at the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy. Convened by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the summit structured the definitive framework for the Edo State Policy on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence.

The policy draft inserts institutional protection protocols against emerging digital crimes, focusing on cyberstalking, image-based exploitation, and artificial intelligence manipulation. State Secretary Barr. Umar Ikhilor noted that the strategy synchronizes with the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law and the federal Cybercrimes Act to establish clear reporting and accountability lines.

The State Judiciary, represented by Justice Esohe Bazuaye on behalf of Chief Judge Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa, pledged advanced training for judicial officers to accelerate prosecutions. The Ministry of Women Affairs confirmed that once fully ratified, the statutory framework will deploy immediate psychosocial support networks, creating a highly secure digital ecosystem for all residents.
