Lagos State Launches Agrithon 3.0 Program With 200 Million Naira Innovation Grants

The Lagos State Government has accelerated its food systems transformation agenda following the formal launch of the Lagos Agrithon 3.0 initiative, which unbundles a 200 million naira capital grant pool for young agripreneurs. Agriculture and Food Systems Commissioner Abisola Olusanya confirmed that the structural platform is engineered to turn youth-led concepts into scalable merchant operations.

The competitive innovation campaign targets severe entry barriers limiting youth inclusion, specifically focusing on deficiencies in capital reserves, technical expertise, and cross-border commercial partnerships. The merit-driven program integrates deep-dive vetting, expert panel pitches, and due diligence tracking to disburse funding across logistics, cold-chain engineering, and crop biotechnology.

Commissioner Olusanya stated that empowering local agripreneurs is an absolute prerequisite for stabilizing food price indices across urban markets. The newly renamed Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has integrated previous grant winners into the broader Produce for Lagos initiative, generating technical apprentice slots and driving sustainable subnational wealth creation uniformly.
