The Lagos State Government has initiated an emergency environmental sanitation campaign following an executive directive issued by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu mandating the immediate scale-up of refuse evacuation across all affected neighborhoods. The intervention is a direct response to recent waste build-ups resulting from temporary logistical delays within the municipal disposal networks.
The emergency mobilization requires the Lagos Waste Management Authority and the State Environmental Protection Agency to deploy extra personnel and haulage trucks for round-the-clock clearing shifts. With the metropolitan territory generating over 13,000 tons of solid waste every single day, the administration aims to upgrade secondary transfer loading stations to prevent environmental contagion risks.
Governor Sanwo-Olu called for an active public partnership, urging residents and informal traders to bag household refuse properly and stop dumping debris inside open drainage channels. The Ministry of Environment has been instructed to tighten enforcement checks against illegal roadside dumping, ensuring that clear urban hydrology flows are maintained to prevent flash seasonal flooding.
