Governor Sanwo-Olu Enters Under2 Coalition Pact To Advance Net Zero Carbon Frameworks

The Lagos State Government has escalated its international climate governance parameters following the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Climate Group in London. Executed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during London Climate Action Week 2026, the non-binding pact marks the state's entry into the Under2 Coalition, the world's largest subnational environmental network.

The strategic integration places Lagos alongside more than 180 global regions representing half of the international economy to accelerate net-zero transition blueprints. Through briefs from Climate Change Advisor Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, the entry leverages the state's pioneering State-Determined Contributions framework to channel international green capital into investment-ready local projects.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that proving environmental resilience can run concurrently with intense macroeconomic growth is a priority pillar for the commercial hub. The State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has been directed to coordinate with coalition technical desks, capturing global best practices to optimize metropolitan circular economy and carbon market structures state-wide.
