๐Ÿช–๐Ÿ›ก️ Governor Adeleke Proposes 8 Strategic Military Checkpoints To Curb Arms Influx

OSOGBO, Nigeria, June 29, 2026 - The Osun State Government has structured an expanded defense partnership layout with the high commands of the Nigerian Armed Forces following a high-level strategic courtesy visit hosted for the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu. Attended by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, the executive session focused on optimizing border security grids to neutralize emerging security threats.

Governor Adeleke outlined three pressing security vulnerabilities impacting the territory, highlighting the illicit proliferation of black-market weapons, the influx of suspected bandits into the Osun East Senatorial District under the guise of artisanal mining, and spillover kidnapping networks operating from neighboring Oyo and Kwara borders. To counter these developments, the state formally requested the urgent deployment of active military checkpoints.

The proposed military blockade installations are strategically mapped along eight critical entry and exit routes, explicitly covering the Ila-Ikirun Road, the Ikirun-Kwara border corridor, and the Ijebu-Jesa-Ekiti transport lines. COAS Lt. Gen. Shaibu commended the state's logistical cooperation, assuring that army training depots remain synchronized to equip personnel for aggressive anti-banditry response tracking.
