Governor Sanwo-Olu Partners With European Investment Bank On Green Omi Eko Transit

The Lagos State Government has accelerated its multimodal transit modernization blueprints following high-level diplomatic briefings led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with the Vice President of the European Investment Bank, Ambroise Fayolle, at Lagos House Marina. The bilateral session solidified implementation workflows for the co-financed 410 million euro Omi Eko inland waterways transport initiative.

The green transportation framework is backed by an executive 170 million euro subsidized credit line from the EIB. The infrastructure plan dictates the deployment of a fleet of over 75 high-capacity electric ferries, the dredging and channelization of 140 kilometers of lagoon pathways, and the installation of specialized solar-powered battery charging installations across 25 smart terminals.

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that expanding eco-friendly marine logistics represents a central pillar of the state's THEMES+ development strategy. The State Waterways Authority has been instructed to establish comprehensive safety perimeters along the prioritized routes, cutting peak commuting timelines by up to three hours while permanently lowering metropolitan automotive carbon emissions.
