๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ›ก️ Former COAS Flags Off 10.4 Billion Naira Wamakko Bunkari Pavement Development

WAMAKKO, Nigeria, June 29, 2026 - The Sokoto State Government has unlocked a major international co-financing milestone following the formal flag-off of the 27-kilometer Wamakko–Bunkari Road project by former Chief of Army Staff, General Faruk Yahaya (Rtd.). Sited within a complex topographical terrain, the high-fidelity engineering intervention replaces a critical abandoned corridor to open up massive commerce and agricultural channels.

The heavy infrastructural contract is backed by a 10.4 billion naira joint funding matrix uniting the World Bank, the French Development Agency (AFD), the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the Sokoto State Government. General Yahaya emphasized that constructing durable, well-drained road corridors is an absolute prerequisite for strengthening subnational defense frameworks, enabling rapid security response tracking across border communities.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu stated that the mega project directly manifests his administration’s Nine-Point Smart Agenda to empower rural populations and eradicate localized logistical constraints. The Sultanate Council, represented by the Baraden Wamakko, pledged unbendable traditional support for the project, while local council chairs lauded the prompt treasury counterpart fund payments that catalyzed the rollout.
