UYO, Nigeria, June 30, 2026 - The Akwa Ibom State Government has reinforced its strategic media partnership and public labor welfare portfolios following an executive audience hosted by Governor Umo Eno for the newly elected leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), State Council. Held at the Government House, the consultation focused on driving institutional collaboration, professional ethics, and sustainable media operations.
To optimize the welfare of information professionals within the state civil service, Governor Eno directed the Head of Service to immediately audit and review the structural weigh-in allowance for government-employed journalists. The administrative mandate ensures that these specialized allowances are brought to total parity with equivalent public sector professional cadres, compensating workers for their dedication to state coverage.
The governor further approved the immediate release of a brand-new operational transit bus to the state union to support its logistical operations and expand remote field coverage. The administration reiterated that maintaining a robust, professional, and independent press corps is an absolute prerequisite for promoting public transparency and reporting the subnational milestones achieved under the ARISE Agenda.
