The Kaduna State Government has launched a massive ecological stabilization project following approval by Governor Uba Sani of a thirty-four billion naira financial intervention to address gully erosion in Rigasa.
Executed through the Ministry of Environment, the civil engineering works will cover a critical 17-kilometre corridor spanning Kaduna South and Igabi local councils. The structural remediation plan involves constructing reinforced concrete retaining walls, setting up advanced drainage channels, and conducting massive land reclamation routines. This human development project aims to halt three decades of environmental degradation that has destroyed properties and claimed lives, directly protecting over two million citizens.
Groundbreaking is scheduled within two weeks, with a firm completion timeline set for eighteen months. To facilitate the engineering works smoothly, the state executive has set aside over two billion naira to provide fair compensation and resettlement support for approximately 1,200 households whose structures fall within the immediate civil construction zone.
