Abia Government Accelerates Construction Work On Three Kilometre Airport Runway

The Abia State Government has expanded its regional aviation infrastructure portfolio following an official media inspection tour of the ongoing Abia International Airport project site situated at Nsulu in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area. Lands and Housing Commissioner Chaka Chukwumerije confirmed that the state has acquired one thousand and twenty-five hectares of land to house the multi-sector project.

Initially conceptualized as a localized cargo hub, the transport terminal was upgraded to an international facility following tactical policy interventions by the state executive. The state engineering departments are executing heavy earthworks, cutting, filling, and compacting across the three-kilometre runway layout, while the federal government remains statutorily tasked with building the main passenger terminal.

The administration confirmed that full capital compensation payouts have been finalized for all landowners situated within the active runway perimeter. The airport coordinator, Pastor Okorougo Aji, stated that engineering works across the primary one-kilometre stretch are nearing completion, positioning the transit asset to open up secure economic corridors for global trade investments within two years.
