The Plateau State Government has expanded its healthcare mobilization frameworks following a successful performance audit of the Plateau State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System. Handled by Health Commissioner Dr. Nicholas Ba’amlong, the evaluation was conducted during an official monitoring visit by a federal delegation from the National Emergency Medical Services board.
The subnational ambulance system, which commenced operations in August 2025, has successfully deployed specialized emergency response teams across the Jos Metropolis, Riyom, and Jos East Local Government Areas. By setting up direct communication grids with the Jos University Teaching Hospital and the State Specialist Hospital, the network aims to shorten response times for maternal and trauma emergencies.
The administration has finalized plans to recruit additional paramedics and procure extra high-capacity ambulances to scale coverage lines. Permanent Secretary Bitrus Keln Hosea noted that standardizing emergency infrastructure is a critical prerequisite for lowering neonatal mortality indices, directing regional health desks to integrate localized village tracking logs to maximize community reach.
