The Anambra State Government has launched its international urban modernization campaign following the formal arrival of a Spanish technical consulting delegation from Acciona in Awka. Supported by the African Development Bank under the African Cities Programme, the specialized team has commenced field diagnostic assessments to prepare the state capital for large-scale infrastructure capital.
The strategic development roadmap, co-managed by the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority under Dr. Ossy Onuko, prioritizes the architectural planning of 10,000 low-cost housing units. The layout also coordinates technical frameworks for an integrated mass transit scheme, sustainable municipal water supply networks, and centralized waste-to-wealth processing hubs.
The administration has secured high-level endorsement for the priority list from the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake. The state executive council emphasized that completing the city action plan is a vital prerequisite for transforming Awka into an investment-ready capital that aligns with the long-term sustainable development codes of the state.
