Sokoto Governor Aliyu Commissions 100 IDP Housing Units In Illela Local Council

The Sokoto State Government has expanded its rural resettlement infrastructure following the commissioning of 100 housing units for internally displaced persons in Illela Local Government Area by Governor Ahmed Aliyu and visiting Borno Governor Babagana Zulum. The residential layout, co-developed with the United Nations Development Programme, targets rehousing communities displaced by recent flood cycles.

The comprehensive stabilization package incorporates a 50-kilowatt solar mini-grid installation, an operational Climate Peace Hub, and the groundbreaking of the Illela International Market. To provide immediate retail leverage, the state executive approved a direct cash allocation of 500,000 naira to each displaced household head to serve as seed capital for micro-enterprise operations.

Governor Aliyu stated that constructing resilient housing blocks is an absolute prerequisite for restoring public dignity and securing border zones. The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has been directed to conclude layout designs for separate housing projects across sectors affected by banditry, utilizing funding models supported by the German Government and regional electrification boards.
