Abia State Secures One Hundred and Forty Five Million Dollar Solar Manufacturing Plant Investment and Expands Electric Bus Fleet

Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti has finalized a $145 million Final Investment Decision (FID) with international investors led by Dr. Oko Jaja and MD Nwakanma Nigeria Limited to construct a solar manufacturing plant in Umuelele, Isiala Ngwa South LGA under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Concurrently, the state Commissioner for Transport inspected the arrival of the second batch of 20 brand-new electric buses imported from China, advancing toward a targeted 100-unit sustainable transit grid, while the Ministry of Information issued an infrastructure defense directive to execute structural drainage adjustments along the flooded Owerrihta and Obohia road construction corridors.

Severe shortages in clean energy manufacturing, high municipal transport costs, and legacy urban drainage failures paralyze commercial activities and discourage private capital investments. Securing large-scale industrial commitments for renewable energy factories alongside zero-emission electric bus fleets boosts the subnational GDP, generates direct youth engineering jobs, and provides affordable public transit while clearing long-standing urban infrastructure bottlenecks.

This integrated industrial and transport milestone demonstrates a highly disciplined approach to public-private asset management, clean-energy transition tracking, and infrastructure accountability. By combining capital procurement with targeted local skills certifications and advanced overseas training in China for indigenous workers, the administration enhances subnational investment protection.
