Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has commissioned six major infrastructural projects at the University of Ilesa (UNILESA) to mark the successful transition of the institution from a defunct college of education to a fully recognized state university. Accompanied by the university's Vice Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, the Governor inaugurated the newly remodeled Faculty of Law Annex, the remodeled Faculty of Public Health building, the new Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, a state-of-the-art student hostel network, a dedicated female medical hostel, and a newly reconstructed internal road network.
Establishing a newly chartered university without securing adequate physical facilities, accredited courses, and stable employment contracts often leaves students with unmarketable degrees and breeds labor union disputes. Actively funding the conversion of the former college’s contract staff into permanent, pensionable university employees and upgrading physical teaching blocks enables UNILESA to successfully manage its growing population of over 15,000 students across 110 academic programs. Additionally, converting the State General Hospital into the UNILESA Teaching Hospital guarantees high-quality clinical training pipelines for local medical students.
This multi-facility commissioning highlights a disciplined approach to public education funding, asset optimization, and civil service transition tracking. By backing the university's statutory establishment with immediate capital development grants, a 500kVA power transformer, and regular staff promotion structures, the administration replaces empty political promises with a highly competitive, legally secure tertiary education system.
