Bayelsa United Football Club Unveils New Technical Team Ahead of League Re-entry Campaign

The Bayelsa State Government, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe, has officially unveiled Coach Abdul Maikaba as the new Technical Adviser of Bayelsa United FC. Unveiled after the Weekly Prosperity Walk, Maikaba - assisted by Coach Ngozi Elechi - has been charged by Governor Douye Diri’s administration to return the relegated team to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) next season.

Relegation from the national football league dampens regional sports development, reduces commercial sports revenues, and limits opportunities for youth athletes. Recruiting top-tier, experienced national coaches and directing them to establish grassroots talent identification programs allow the state to build a highly competitive squad while promoting youth empowerment and regional sports tourism.

This sports appointment highlights a structured approach to public asset management, youth development tracking, and community engagement. By backing the football club's interim board with high-quality technical leadership and calling for corporate sponsorships, the administration leverages sports as a tool for economic growth.
