Taraba State Government Coordinates Survey for Proposed Naval Base in Kashimbila

The Taraba State Government has hosted a high-level assessment delegation from the Nigerian Navy Headquarters, led by the Chief of Administration, Rear Admiral Jonathan Joseph Nwunuji Mamman. The strategic meeting at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo focused on coordinating the technical surveys and security guidelines required to establish a permanent Naval Base along the Kashimbila Waterway in Takum Local Government Area.

The Kashimbila River is a high-value national asset hosting the 40MW Kashimbila Hydroelectric Power Project and serving an active regional airport corridor along the porous Nigeria-Cameroon international border. Leaving these extensive waterways unmonitored exposes critical infrastructure to cross-border criminal networks, arms traffickers, and pipeline saboteurs, making a permanent naval presence vital to protect public assets and train local residents to support marine security patrols.

This defense partnership demonstrates a highly strategic, intergovernmental approach to territorial monitoring and infrastructure security tracking. By proactively allocating land and offering administrative support to federal military operations, the state government secures its borders, protects high-value power assets, and ensures long-term regional stability.
