Plateau State Partners Ministry of Industry to Drive AfCFTA Trade Competitiveness

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has held a strategic coordination meeting in Abuja with the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole. The bilateral engagement focused on establishing a federal-state partnership to accelerate trade, industrial development, and local enterprise growth under the guidelines of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Plateau State possesses rich agricultural and solid mineral resources, but the lack of direct value-addition facilities, standardized export certifications, and modern trade logistics often limits local producers from accessing larger international markets. Partnering with the Federal Ministry allows the state to build targeted packaging and processing hubs, lower export barriers for local farmers, and attract the manufacturing investments needed to create high-paying jobs.

This trade development meeting demonstrates a forward-looking, policy-driven approach to resource commercialization, industrial planning, and subnational economic tracking. By leveraging federal trade corridors and AfCFTA structures, the administration strengthens its non-oil revenue streams and improves the competitive position of its local businesses.
