The Plateau State Government has finalized its administrative alignment with the newly established Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund (NNSTF) following a joint summit in Kaduna. Participating alongside the 19 northern state executives and the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council, the administration endorsed the formal inauguration of a 21-member Board of Trustees, which includes Plateau State’s representative, retired Senator Napoleon Bali. Under the unified fiscal pact, the state government committed to a mandatory monthly contribution of ₦1 billion for twelve months to co-fund regional counter-banditry and intelligence operations.
The regional security partnership allows the Plateau State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to move past isolated border operations and access a centralized, technology-driven intelligence network. The fund, co-chaired by Alhaji Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed and General Martin Luther Agwai (Rtd.), provides sustainable financing to secure rural farming corridors, enhance inter-state security patrols, and minimize communal conflicts during the rainy season. Crucially, the sub-national leaders agreed to complement these tactical measures with increased investments in basic education, youth skills development, and poverty alleviation to address the root causes of regional insecurity.
