The Lagos State Resilience Office (LASRO), in partnership with the Resilient Cities Network and ARUP, convened an institutional workshop focused on strengthening community resilience through improved collaboration among government institutions, development partners, academia and civil society organisations. The engagement formed part of the implementation of Lagos State's Community Resilience Programme.
Representatives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies reviewed progress under existing resilience initiatives, validated implementation findings and identified priority actions for strengthening resilience planning across communities. Using the Ajegunle–Ikorodu Community as a case study, participants assessed progress under the Community Resilience Action Plan while identifying opportunities for improved coordination and future investment.
Officials from the Resilient Cities Network and ARUP facilitated technical discussions covering implementation experiences, institutional coordination and sector-specific challenges. Participating agencies also presented updates on resilience interventions already undertaken within the community.
The workshop concluded with participating institutions reaffirming their commitment to strengthening evidence-based planning, expanding collaboration and supporting resilience initiatives designed to improve community preparedness for social, economic and environmental challenges affecting Lagos State.
The workshop demonstrates an institutional governance approach that places collaboration at the centre of resilience planning. Building resilient communities increasingly requires coordination across multiple government agencies together with technical partners capable of supporting long-term planning and implementation.
Reviewing existing resilience programmes through structured assessments allows government institutions to identify implementation gaps, improve resource allocation and strengthen policy coordination before expanding interventions into additional communities.
The emphasis on evidence-based decision-making also reflects a growing reliance on data and structured evaluation within public administration. Such approaches can improve the effectiveness of resilience investments while supporting better preparedness for climate-related, economic and urban development challenges.
Overall, the initiative strengthens Lagos State's resilience governance framework by encouraging integrated planning, institutional cooperation and strategic investment aimed at improving the capacity of communities to anticipate, withstand and recover from future challenges.
