The Lagos State Government has presented Land Allocation Letters to 98 communities within Ito-Omu, Sangotedo and the Ibeju-Lekki axis as part of its ongoing New Town Development Programme designed to support planned urban expansion and long-term infrastructure development. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presented the allocation letters to community representatives during an official ceremony held at Ito-Omu Link Bridge in Sangotedo.
The allocation exercise follows the government's acquisition of approximately 16,300 hectares of land through the Lagos State New Town Development Authority (NTDA) for the implementation of comprehensive development schemes intended to address housing demand and support future economic and social development within one of Lagos State's fastest-growing corridors. The initiative provides recognised land allocation to beneficiary communities while establishing a structured framework for coordinated physical development across the area.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the objective of the programme is to ensure that urban growth within Ito-Omu and adjoining communities proceeds through deliberate planning rather than uncontrolled expansion. He explained that the development framework integrates residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and recreational land uses to facilitate efficient infrastructure provision, attract investment and improve the quality of life for residents. The Governor noted that the initiative aligns with the administration's THEMES+ Agenda and its broader objective of building an inclusive, resilient and globally competitive Lagos.
The Governor further announced that the presentation of allocation letters represents the beginning of a broader implementation phase that will include expanded road access, improved drainage infrastructure, enhanced social amenities and the planned construction of the Ito-Omu Waterfront Jetty to strengthen transportation connectivity across the developing communities. He urged beneficiary communities to continue working with relevant government agencies to ensure orderly implementation of the development plan while preserving the cultural identity and heritage of the affected communities.
The allocation of land rights to ninety-eight communities represents a significant executive intervention in land administration and urban development within one of Lagos State's most rapidly expanding economic corridors.
