Governor Caleb Mutfwang declared open the 20th Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) International Conference on Technology and Computing in Jos, where he called on technology professionals, researchers, policymakers, innovators and industry leaders to develop practical digital solutions capable of accelerating economic growth, reducing poverty and modernising key sectors of Nigeria's economy. Speaking during the conference held under the theme Harnessing Digital Innovation and Emerging Technologies for Inclusive Growth and Economic Renaissance (RISE 2026), the Governor presented digital transformation as a central component of Plateau State's governance and development agenda.
The Governor stated that his administration has deliberately integrated technology into public administration to improve internally generated revenue, strengthen payroll management through biometric verification, increase transparency and enhance efficiency in government operations. He also disclosed that Plateau State, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has established a Makerspace at Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, to provide young innovators with facilities for developing locally driven technological solutions.
Governor Mutfwang further identified agriculture, healthcare, education, livestock production and food security as sectors where digital innovation could significantly improve productivity and service delivery. He argued that Nigeria should move beyond consuming imported technologies by developing indigenous hardware and globally competitive software capable of supporting long-term economic transformation. The Governor also promoted Plateau State as a favourable destination for investment, innovation and enterprise, citing its youthful population, peaceful environment, cultural diversity and natural resource base.
Conference organisers explained that the event would feature keynote presentations, innovation exhibitions, technical sessions, startup engagements, policy dialogues and capacity-building programmes intended to produce practical recommendations for Nigeria's digital economy. The leadership of the Nigeria Computer Society commended the Plateau State Government for hosting the conference and expressed confidence that the deliberations would strengthen collaboration among government, academia, industry and development partners while advancing Nigeria's technological development agenda.
