The Lagos State Youth Ambassadors officially commenced an international leadership and public policy study tour at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. Facilitated and funded by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, the high-level program kicked off with a baseline technical session titled "Understanding the Lagos Context from a Global Perspective: Challenges and Opportunities." The youth delegation traveled to Singapore to undergo intensive practical training in comparative public policy execution and advanced municipal management.
The foreign training program directly supports the state executive’s THEMES+ development blueprint by building a pipeline of highly qualified young leaders for public service roles. Through specialized modules covering Design Thinking, Digital and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled Innovation, and Cognitive Bias Awareness, the youth ambassadors study comparative development models that can be adapted to solve Lagos' complex urban infrastructure challenges. The program requires each participant to design a community-based development project to be executed locally upon their return.
Sending youth delegates to a top global public policy institution underscores the state executive's focus on evidence-based administration and long-term human capital planning. By exposing young leaders to international best practices in digital governance and project management, the Ministry of Youth and Social Development systematically enhances sub-national leadership standards. This proactive investment improves public administration capacity, equips future civil servants to manage complex urban systems, and supports the state's plan for international competitiveness and inclusive economic development.
