The Edo State Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources has begun discussions with NIPCO Gas Limited on compressed natural gas infrastructure and alternative energy solutions for transportation.
The engagement is part of the state's efforts to explore alternatives to conventional transport fuels and address the cost burden associated with transportation.
Commissioner for Oil and Gas Resources Andrew Momodu said the state was ready to work with NIPCO Gas on promoting CNG as an alternative fuel and developing supporting infrastructure.
Momodu cited the state's investment in CNG buses and said wider infrastructure would be needed to support adoption of CNG-powered public transportation.
NIPCO Gas Chief Operating Officer Sanjay Tarat expressed the company's willingness to explore areas of collaboration, including expansion of CNG facilities and wider use of natural gas in transportation.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Joy Akhigbe, said discussions would continue toward identifying viable strategic partnerships supporting the state's energy objectives and residents' welfare.
