The Minister of Works, David Umahi, gave the directive during an inspection of the bridge at the Onitsha Bridge Head.

The minister said vandalised bolts and nuts had been replaced and that a stolen expansion joint had been manufactured and brought into the country for installation.

Additional works ordered include structural repainting, solar-powered streetlights, CCTV surveillance linked to the Second Niger Bridge and a comprehensive assessment of the bridge above and below the water level.

Representing the governors of Delta and Anambra states, Delta Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information Charles Aniagwu commended the progress of the rehabilitation and said earlier directives concerning damaged components had been implemented.

The rehabilitation remains ongoing, with the additional structural works intended to support the safety and durability of the bridge before its reopening to traffic.
