Ondo State has commenced a four-week solar panel installation training programme for youths across its 18 Local Government Areas through a partnership involving the state government, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and GIZ.
The Ondo government publication said the training was launched in Akure on September 21, 2026, through the Board for Adult, Technical and Vocational Education. Experts in solar installation are handling the four-week programme.
The intervention is designed to provide practical skills linked to renewable energy and entrepreneurship. The state said participants were drawn from across the 18 Local Government Areas.
State officials described the programme as part of efforts to build youth capacity and expand opportunities for self-employment. Participants were urged to follow the training process carefully and make effective use of the opportunity.
The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment's Ondo controller welcomed the programme, while a GIZ facilitator said the organisation's broader objective includes supporting a shift from fossil fuels toward renewable-energy applications.
State officials also linked solar installation skills to energy independence and environmental considerations. The training therefore combines technical skills development with a renewable-energy focus, although the source does not provide post-training employment targets.
