Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has assured the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) that his administration intends to sustain funding and institutional support for humanitarian interventions serving vulnerable communities. The commitment was conveyed during a meeting with an ECHO delegation, which discussed ongoing work in nutrition, food security, humanitarian assistance and resilience across the state.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by an ECHO delegation led by its team lead, identified in the government account as Mr. Alexandre, at Government House in Katsina. The visit was facilitated by the Katsina State Development Management Board as part of ECHO's mission to monitor and assess humanitarian interventions being implemented by its partners across the state.
Radda thanked ECHO and its consortium of implementing partners for interventions across several local government areas, particularly in nutrition, food security and humanitarian response. He said the partners' work complemented government efforts and helped direct assistance towards communities facing humanitarian challenges.
The governor said the state government would continue to provide funding and institutional support to sustain successful interventions. He emphasised that government resources and donor contributions should complement one another to advance inclusive and sustainable development, indicating that the state's role would remain part of the partnership rather than being confined to receiving external assistance.
ECHO's team lead commended the state administration for prioritising vulnerable populations and providing an enabling environment for development partners. He also cited counterpart and matching funding from the state, saying that in some instances the government's contribution exceeded donor commitments and could help interventions continue beyond the lifespan of donor-funded projects.
ECHO reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Katsina in nutrition, food security, humanitarian assistance, resilience building and institutional capacity strengthening. The meeting established both sides' stated intention to continue working together, but the account did not specify new funding amounts, project-by-project allocations or a revised implementation timetable.
