Governor Uba Sani announced plans for a further pension increase during a courtesy visit by national and state executives of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP). The announcement, made in a statement dated October 6, 2026, was presented as part of the Kaduna State Government's commitment to the welfare and dignity of retirees.

Sani said his administration had disbursed more than ₦21 billion towards pension arrears, gratuities and death benefits since taking office. He also said monthly pension payments had been sustained, although the statement did not provide a payment schedule, a breakdown of the disbursements or a proposed implementation date for the additional pension increase.

The governor said the union had honoured him with its “Pensioner-Friendly Governor” award in recognition of the administration's record on pensioner welfare. He dedicated the recognition to Kaduna residents and retirees, whose years of public service, he said, had contributed to the development of the state.

During the engagement, Sani also presented an operational bus to the union and allocated a parcel of land for construction of its permanent state secretariat. These measures were described as institutional support intended to strengthen the union's operations and provide a permanent base for its activities.

The union also endorsed Sani for another term and expressed readiness to mobilise its members ahead of the 2027 election. The governor welcomed the expression of confidence and reiterated his commitment to public welfare. The additional pension increase remains an announced plan; the statement did not specify its amount or commencement date.
