Edo State's fifth Public Service Knowledge-Sharing Series examined discipline, workplace culture and organisational growth, with the Head of Service linking professional discipline to consistency, adherence to rules and effective public service delivery.
The fifth edition of the Public Service Knowledge-Sharing Series was hosted virtually on September 29, 2026, by the Office of the Head of Service and streamed across multiple platforms. The theme focused on cultivating discipline for organisational growth and mastering self-discipline in a distracted environment.
Head of Service Dr Anthony Okungbowa, who initiated the series, said discipline should not be treated as punishment but as a requirement for growth. He argued that talent and competence need to be accompanied by adherence to established rules and standards.
Guest speaker Stella Obialor examined the relationship between personal habits and workplace culture, noting that individual behaviour can influence productivity and organisational effectiveness. She urged public servants to remain focused on their responsibilities and avoid distractions.
Obialor also distinguished discipline sustained through surveillance from discipline driven by personal responsibility, while urging leaders to model the standards expected from officers. She described discipline as a practice requiring consistency rather than perfection.
A ward round led by the Head of Service and the Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy followed the session to assess compliance with the culture of discipline across ministries, departments and agencies. The exercise extended the knowledge-sharing theme into an assessment of workplace practice.
