The National Emergency Management Agency has provided relief materials to victims of recent flood disasters in Akaeze and Ishiagu communities of Ivo Local Government Area in Ebonyi State.

The Ebonyi State government publication said the materials include bags of beans, rice and garri, cartons of vegetable oil, foam mattresses, mosquito nets and women’s clothing.

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, while receiving the NEMA management team in the state, expressed concern over recurring flood disasters and said affected residents had lost means of livelihood as a result of the incident.

The governor assured NEMA that the state would ensure transparent distribution of the relief materials to genuine victims. NEMA’s Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Imam Gariki, said the agency’s Enugu Operations had conducted an assessment to determine the extent of damage and the level of federal assistance required.

NEMA appealed to the Ebonyi State Government to ensure prompt distribution of the materials directly to affected victims as the state continues to respond to the recent flooding.
