The National Emergency Management Agency, working with the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, has distributed relief materials to people affected by recent disasters in Calabar.

The Cross River State government publication said the intervention targeted affected persons in Calabar Municipality and Calabar South Local Government Areas following incidents including fire, flooding and landslides.

Distributed materials included rice, beans, spaghetti, groundnut oil, tomatoes, salt, detergents, mosquito nets, mattresses and clothing materials. The agencies said the supplies were intended to support families that had lost belongings and means of livelihood.

The intervention followed earlier assessments of disaster-affected communities. CR-SEMA said it would continue working with NEMA, local emergency management committees and other stakeholders to identify affected persons and facilitate available assistance.

The distribution was attended by representatives of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the Department of State Services and other stakeholders. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the assistance as recovery from the recent disasters continued.
