Plateau Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency is preparing to partner with Catholic Relief Services and the Justice, Development and Peace Commission, Jos, on a humanitarian programme expected to reach approximately 57,000 conflict-affected and displaced people across Plateau and Benue States.
The Plateau State government publication reported that PRUWASSA has expressed readiness to partner with Catholic Relief Services and JDPC Jos on interventions covering water, sanitation and hygiene and nutrition services for conflict-affected and displaced populations.
The proposed collaboration was discussed during a courtesy visit by a CRS delegation working with JDPC Jos. PRUWASSA said it had the technical capacity and institutional experience to contribute to the planned interventions.
CRS team lead Dr. Timothy Paul Daret presented the Rapid Assistance for People Impacted by Disaster programme as an integrated humanitarian response intended to provide urgent assistance while strengthening communities' capacity to cope with future emergencies.
The programme is expected to reach approximately 57,000 conflict-affected and displaced persons, representing about 9,500 households, across eight local government areas. Plateau targets Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos and Riyom, while Agatu, Gwer West, Kwande and Logo are targeted in Benue.
The intervention is designed to combine food and nutrition assistance, WASH, shelter, protection, disaster-risk reduction and resilience measures. The proposed PRUWASSA partnership is intended to strengthen coordination between government and humanitarian actors as implementation proceeds.
