The Plateau State House of Assembly confirmed nominees for the House of Assembly Service Commission and Water Sector Regulatory Commission while advancing several bills through first and second readings.
The Plateau State government publication reported that the State House of Assembly screened and confirmed nominees for key institutional positions during a plenary session at the Assembly Complex in Jos.
Titus Alams was confirmed as Chairman of the Plateau State House of Assembly Service Commission, Deshi Ayuba Joseph as a member of the commission, and Stella Buge as Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Water Sector Regulatory Commission.
Speaker Naanlong Daniel Gapyil urged the confirmed officials to uphold the responsibilities of their respective institutions, work diligently and apply their experience to effective service delivery and institutional development.
During the same legislative proceedings, a bill seeking constitutional alteration to provide for a State Police Service and related matters scaled through second reading. Bills addressing professional quackery and public safety, an Indigenous Language Development Commission, and mandatory entrepreneurship education in secondary schools also progressed through first reading.
A further bill seeking to repeal and re-enact the College of Education, Gindiri Law and establish a new statutory framework for the institution also scaled through second reading. The proceedings therefore combined institutional appointments with legislative consideration of several state-level policy measures.
