The Oyo State government publication said the launch brought together representatives of CGIAR, including its incoming Board Chair Hailemariam Dessalegn Boshe, System Council Chair Renaud Seligmann and Executive Managing Director Ismahane Elouafi.

The CGIAR board meeting, involving its leadership and 14 Director-Generals, was described in the announcement as taking place in Nigeria for the first time. The event was held at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture.

Governor Makinde described the AgriConnect Compact as a national framework intended to grow food and create jobs through development of the agricultural value chain.

The launch also involved former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Abubakar Kyari and development partners including the World Bank Group, African Development Bank, IFAD and IITA.

The Oyo announcement presented the compact as part of broader national efforts around agricultural development and food security, with development partners and government institutions participating in the initiative.
