The proposed collaboration was discussed after the Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Leye Akinola, led representatives of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, to seek a link with the 32 Artillery Brigade.

The initiative involves FECA GLOBAL CONSULT under the PIND-WISE project, funded by IDH and the Mastercard Foundation for Niger Delta States, with a proposed focus on empowering women and youths through cassava cultivation.

The project coordinator, Abiodun Adeeko, said the proposed model would provide land preparation, training, inputs and eventual off-take of cassava, while vegetables could be cultivated during the cassava growing period.

Adeeko said the project would also engage additional workers around participating farmers and that much of the required support was already available at the Federal College of Agriculture, subject to access to suitable land.

The brigade commander, Brigadier General J.N. Garba, said the proposal would be discussed with his team and superiors before any approval, meaning the proposed project remained subject to military consideration at the time of the report.
