Ondo State is exploring collaboration with the Nigerian Army and agricultural stakeholders to establish cassava production within the 32 Artillery Brigade community in Akure.
The proposal emerged from an engagement led by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Leye Akinola, with representatives of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, and the 32 Artillery Brigade.
FECA GLOBAL CONSULT, through the PIND-WISE project funded by IDH and the Mastercard Foundation for Niger Delta States, proposed using available barracks land to empower women and youths through cassava cultivation.
The proposed model includes land preparation, training, inputs and cassava off-take, with vegetable cultivation also envisaged during the cassava growing period.
Project Coordinator Abiodun Adeeko said the required support was largely available at the Federal College of Agriculture, subject to access to land and other approvals.
Brigadier General J.N. Garba said the proposal would be considered with his team and superiors, making clear that implementation remained subject to the brigade's approval.
