The Lagos Waste Management Authority has intensified enforcement against waste-related offences, reporting 14 arrests on Lagos Island and the seizure of scores of carts linked to unauthorised waste collection along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The Lagos Waste Management Authority reported that 14 persons were arrested during an enforcement operation covering Idumota, Oke-Popo, Tom Jones and Tinubu on Lagos Island.
The arrests involved alleged waste-related offences, including illegal disposal of waste into the lagoon, according to the authority.
LAWMA also conducted an enforcement operation from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, where operatives seized scores of carts used for what the authority described as unauthorised waste collection.
LAWMA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Muyiwa Gbadegesin said the operations were intended to strengthen compliance with waste-management regulations and address activities that undermine organised waste collection and disposal.
The authority warned against dumping waste on roads, drains and waterways and against unauthorised waste collection, while urging residents, traders and businesses to use approved waste-disposal and accredited collection channels.
