The Director General of the Cross River State Electrification Agency, Francis Ekpo, said the reported progress followed interventions aimed at extending electricity access to communities with inadequate or no grid power.

The programme includes transformer installations and replacements, substation rehabilitation, network expansion, reticulation and new electrification projects across rural and urban communities.

The state has also moved beyond conventional grid infrastructure through the rollout of 10,000 solar home systems for rural households and small businesses, while projects in several local government areas include new transformers and substation infrastructure.

Ekpo said the agency's strategy combines grid expansion, rehabilitation and renewable-energy deployment, with the state targeting 65 per cent statewide electricity access by 2027.

The reported interventions are intended to strengthen electricity infrastructure and extend access to underserved communities, with the state government linking continued investment to household, business and wider economic activity.
