Commissioner for Health Henry Egbe Ayuk stated the government's position during a meeting with the college's Governing Council at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Calabar on September 22, 2026.

Ayuk said the institution could operate only with formal government recognition and approval and maintained that private-sector participation in state investments must respect the government's ownership, regulatory and administrative authority.

The Governing Council Chairman, Teresa A. Osaji, said the council sought clarification from the ministry following correspondence from the Catholic Diocese expressing an intention to assume control of the institution.

Osaji said the council considered it necessary, as public servants, to verify its administrative standing with the state government and determine the appropriate way forward.

The meeting included the college's Provost, representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives and members of the Governing Council, with the state's position on ownership and administration reaffirmed.
