A Cross River State delegation has travelled to Uganda for a knowledge tour focused on coffee production and value-chain development as the state develops its own coffee programme.
The delegation is led by Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development Johnson Andiambey Ebokpo and includes government officials, legislators, technical officers and representatives of women and young people.
The visit forms part of Cross River's coffee development initiative, which includes farmer profiling, training and the distribution of subsidised Arabica and Robusta seedlings in Calabar and other Local Government Areas.
According to Ebokpo, the delegation will study community infrastructure, processing, value addition, quality standards, traceability and market development, alongside the institutional arrangements supporting Uganda's coffee industry.
The delegation's composition includes representatives of the House of Assembly, Forestry Commission, agriculture authorities, the Multi-Stakeholder Committee on Cocoa, Coffee and Oil Palm, youth organisations and students.
The lessons from the tour are expected to inform recommendations for implementing and strengthening Cross River's coffee development programme, although the source does not report specific policy changes resulting from the visit yet.
