The Benue State Executive Council has suspended the chairman and executive secretary of the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for three months while petitions alleging financial and administrative irregularities are investigated.
The Benue government publication said the suspension of Chairman Abubakar Adamu and Executive Secretary Ahmadu Alhassan took effect on September 21, 2026. The action follows petitions alleging misuse of Hajj slots and mismanagement of funds.
The petition against the executive secretary also contains allegations concerning irregularities in the distribution of government palliatives. The state government said the allegations require investigation.
The Executive Council expressly stated that the suspensions do not amount to findings of guilt. The three-month period is intended to allow a thorough investigation without interference with the process.
To maintain continuity, the council approved Ahmed Tijani Adamu as Acting Chairman and Adamu Salihu Babi as Acting Executive Secretary. The suspended officials were directed to hand over office properties immediately.
The development places the board's administration under an interim arrangement while the allegations are examined. The state government said the process reflects its stated commitment to transparency, accountability and proper management of public resources.
