Governor Hyacinth Alia received the African Leadership Award for Grassroots Development at the 11th International Forum on African and Caribbean Leadership held in New York alongside the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The Benue State government publication reported that Governor Hyacinth Alia received the African Leadership Award for Grassroots Development at the 11th International Forum on African and Caribbean Leadership held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to the governor's statement, the recognition was associated with the administration's efforts around inclusive development, grassroots transformation and sustainable growth in Benue State.
The event also recognised other African and Caribbean political leaders in different categories, while leading African diaspora personalities were recognised under the Top 40 African Diaspora Leaders category.
Governor Alia dedicated the award to the people of Benue State, acknowledging their support and participation in the administration's development agenda. The recognition formed part of his wider New York engagements during the UNGA period.
The award is therefore recorded as an international recognition received by the Benue governor during the September 2026 UNGA period, with the governor associating it with his administration's grassroots development programme.
