Akwa Ibom State has commissioned a Youth Development Centre in Uruan Local Government Area as part of a state programme focused on practical skills, entrepreneurship and enterprise development.
The Akwa Ibom State government publication said the centre was commissioned through Princess Usoro Akpabio, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South South Development Commission, and is intended to provide young people with opportunities for skills acquisition and enterprise development.
The state said the Uruan facility forms part of a plan to establish similar youth development centres across the state's 31 local government areas. The centre is intended to support practical training, business development and pathways toward self-reliance.
Uruan Local Government Chairman Iniobong Ekpenyong said the facility would provide a platform for youths to acquire skills and develop their capacities. Other officials referenced existing youth training through Ibom LED and the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Center.
The commissioning formed part of activities marking the 39th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State. State officials said the broader programme is intended to make skills development and entrepreneurship opportunities more accessible to young people in local communities.
The new Uruan centre therefore joins the state's stated network of youth-focused interventions, with its immediate functions centred on skills development, entrepreneurship and enterprise creation.
