Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas convened an emergency State Security Council meeting to review reported crime, illicit drug consumption, unprovoked attacks and security concerns associated with mining activities.
The emergency meeting brought together heads of security agencies and other relevant stakeholders in Jalingo to review emerging security challenges and consider measures for protecting lives and property across Taraba State.
Governor Kefas expressed concern about what he described as growing criminal activity and illicit drug consumption, as well as reported cases of unprovoked attacks. He called for vigilance and timely responses to emerging threats.
The governor also addressed security issues associated with mining activities, describing security as a collective responsibility requiring cooperation among security agencies, government institutions and other stakeholders.
Kefas urged the participating agencies to work in synergy and maintain commitment to addressing security threats. He also acknowledged the contribution of the military to peace and security efforts in the state.
The meeting subsequently moved into a closed-door session where participants discussed the security situation and possible responses. The Commissioner of Police, CP Edwin Ogbegbagha, later briefed journalists on some of the resolutions reached by the council.
