The Plateau State Government has established an information and verification centre at the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency to help residents verify the registration and authenticity of food, water, drugs, cosmetics and other regulated products.
The Plateau State Government has urged residents to exercise greater caution when purchasing food, water, medicines, cosmetics and other regulated products, warning that substandard, unregistered or unsafe goods can pose risks to public health. According to the Plateau State government publication, the consumer-protection initiative is intended to strengthen public awareness and give residents a practical mechanism for checking products before purchase.
A dedicated information and verification centre has been established at the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency. Members of the public can use the centre to make enquiries and verify whether products are duly registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. The arrangement gives consumers an institutional point of contact where uncertainty exists over the authenticity or regulatory status of a product.
The Director-General of the agency, Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, described the initiative as part of the agency's commitment to protecting public health and ensuring access to quality-assured medicines and other regulated products. He urged consumers to seek verification whenever they have doubts about a product's authenticity or registration status. The government publication also frames consumer vigilance as a shared responsibility, placing part of the preventive effort directly with members of the public.
The state further warned that sanctions are available under relevant regulations for individuals found culpable of producing, distributing or selling unsafe or unregistered products. The government said such measures would be enforced accordingly. The combination of verification access, consumer awareness and regulatory enforcement creates a three-part approach: consumers are encouraged to check products, the agency provides a channel for verification, and offenders remain subject to applicable sanctions.
Residents have been advised to verify before purchasing regulated products and to report suspected unsafe, substandard or unregistered goods to the appropriate authorities. The verification centre can be reached on 08129999249 for enquiries and product checks. As of October 7, 2026, the Plateau intervention is therefore operational at the agency level, with the state government positioning product verification and enforcement as mechanisms for reducing public exposure to unsafe and unregistered goods.
