Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has flagged off the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 41-kilometre Bisichi–Fan–Mangu Halle Road, an infrastructure project intended to improve connectivity and the movement of people, goods and services across communities in the state.
The governor performed the flag-off ceremony at Fan District on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. According to the Plateau State government publication, the road was originally awarded in December 2012 to Eighteen Engineering International Construction Company as a surface-dressed road on a laterite base. The present intervention upgrades the project to a full asphalt road in response to changing traffic demands and the deteriorating condition of the existing infrastructure.
Mutfwang said the reconstructed 41-kilometre corridor is expected to reduce travel time, improve road safety and facilitate access to markets, healthcare facilities, schools and other essential services. He described the work as part of his administration's commitment to infrastructure designed to serve present and future generations.
The governor also announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the Mararaban Jama'a–Mangu–Kanke–Langtang–Shendam–Ibi Road. He said cooperation between the state and federal governments was creating further opportunities for infrastructure development and improved livelihoods. The federal road approval is a separate development from the state road reconstruction flagged off at Fan.
Mutfwang commended residents of Fan and Barkin-Ladi for their cooperation and willingness to make land available for development. He also disclosed that the administration was working towards introducing modern greenhouse agricultural systems intended to use less land while delivering higher yields and creating economic opportunities for rural communities. Plateau Commissioner for Works Dr. Cletus Shurkuk described the road as an important economic and social link.
Representatives of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area and Fan community pledged cooperation with the contractor to support delivery according to specifications and the agreed timeframe. The contractor also gave an assurance that the work would meet the required standards and schedule. The flag-off marks the commencement of the reconstruction initiative, while completion and the promised transport benefits remain dependent on execution.
