The Jigawa State Government has announced the recruitment of 2,020 additional secondary school teachers, comprising 1,100 permanent and pensionable appointments and 920 positions under the J-Teach programme.
The appointment letters were formally presented in Dutse as part of the state government's continuing effort to expand the teaching workforce. Governor Umar Namadi said the recruitment was intended to address shortages of qualified teachers across the state.
The government said particular emphasis would be placed on underserved rural communities. The stated objective is to improve pupil-teacher and student-teacher ratios and ensure schools have sufficient qualified personnel.
The governor said the recruitment complements recent distribution of school uniforms, bags and writing materials to learners. He also said teacher development would remain part of the programme through induction, continuous training, retraining and professional development.
According to the Jigawa State government publication, J-Teach and related recruitment pathways have expanded the education workforce since 2023, with some personnel subsequently converted to permanent and pensionable appointments following training and selection processes.
The latest 2,020 appointments therefore constitute another reported expansion of Jigawa's secondary-school teaching workforce. The government said new teachers would receive induction, mentoring, supervision and performance assessment while being expected to maintain professional standards.
