The Edo State Sustainable Development Goals Office has conducted a public bid-opening exercise for five projects covering community infrastructure, healthcare, drainage maintenance and institutional equipment. The office said the contracts would be awarded after evaluation of the bids, while officials and participating firms described the opening process as transparent and orderly.
The Edo State Sustainable Development Goals Office held a public bid-opening exercise at its office in Benin City for five development projects intended for communities across the state. Director-General Julius Ogieva said the projects were approved to support development priorities and urged bidders to focus on delivering work that meets the required specifications.
The listed projects include a mini market at Ekpon in Igueben Local Government Area, with solar lighting, a borehole water supply and modern toilet facilities, as well as the supply and installation of 60-watt solar streetlights at selected locations in the community.
Another project involves constructing a primary healthcare centre at Agua-Era in Esan Central Local Government Area, including perimeter fencing, solar lighting and healthcare equipment. The programme also includes desilting drainage systems and evacuating silt at selected locations in Oredo Local Government Area.
The remaining procurement items are a project-monitoring vehicle and media equipment for the SDGs Office. Ogieva said the office would monitor awarded contracts regardless of the contractor or location, with attention to quality standards and completion schedules. He described successful contract delivery, rather than winning a bid alone, as the measure of project success.
Oko Elvis, representing the Edo State Public Procurement Agency, said the exercise met the standard of openness, while representatives of Elloins Limited and Pagenda Integrated Services Limited also praised its conduct. The SDGs Office stated that successful bidders would be announced after the evaluation process, meaning the bid opening itself did not establish the final contract awards.
