General Hospital Izhiangbo in Ebonyi State has expanded its capacity to perform Transurethral Resection of the Prostate, with the facility reporting that free telescopic prostate screening and surgery are scheduled to begin on October 5, 2026.
An Ebonyi State government publication reported that General Hospital Izhiangbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area has expanded its capacity to perform Transurethral Resection of the Prostate, or TURP, a minimally invasive procedure used in the treatment of an enlarged prostate.
The report said the procedure has been undertaken at the facility since June 2026 by a team of urologists under the supervision of resident doctor Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Edeaja, with support from other medical personnel. The development was presented as an expansion of access to specialised urological care within the state.
According to the publication, the increased capacity is intended to reduce the need for patients requiring the procedure to travel outside Ebonyi State. The report attributed the development to investment by the Governor Francis Nwifuru administration in the health sector.
The hospital is scheduled to commence free telescopic prostate screening and surgery from October 5, 2026. The programme is intended to make the specialised service accessible to more citizens, particularly people experiencing symptoms associated with prostate enlargement.
The hospital encouraged prospective beneficiaries to use the free consultation and screening opportunity and seek professional medical assessment. The reported service expansion therefore combines an existing TURP capability with a scheduled free screening and surgical intervention beginning October 5.
